And on Saturday, the Buffalo Bills drafted someone who they hope will have a similar effect as Mailata, despite never having played a snap of football. With the 221st overall pick and the first pick of the seventh round, the Bills selected Travis Clayton, a former rugby player from the United Kingdom. Clayton has never played in a football game but possesses the raw tools that could translate to play offensive tackle in the league. Clayton played for Basingstoke Rugby club, which plays in the Counties 2 Hampshire Division, the eighth tier of English rugby. Our man Travis Clayton drafted by the Bills.

Work is part of our identity here in a way that people from other countries find at turns fascinating and pathological. The bill would aim to ensure that people aren’t pinged with work emails, texts or calls outside their established work hours, with notable exceptions for emergencies or scheduling issues. If the boss intrudes on your non-work window three times, you can report them and the state could impose fines starting at $100. No one likes pausing Succession to respond to a 9pm request, but the guilt of ignoring it and wondering whether your boss will be mad at you is also, like, not fun. A historically tight labor market has given workers more leverage to negotiate their pay, hours and working conditions.

Since the 1970 NFL-AFL merger, those two teams were the only ones ever to go undefeated during the regular season. Jets stun Eagles for Philly’s first defeatThe New York Jets had been down on their luck and the Philadelphia Eagles were undefeated and slowly improving after a slow start. Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London CNN —On an unseasonably warm autumnal morning in East London, Mary Beth Schumen and her husband have made an early start to their Sunday. Yet on London’s underground, the Schumens are not the only ones in Bills blue. “It’s another feeling to be live in the stadium,” he tells CNN Sport in anticipation of his third London-based NFL game. I now see that my family’s experience with the Twelve Tribes was part of a larger social problem that anti-discrimination laws have long sought to address: the problem of public discrimination perpetrated by private actors. Still, my family’s experience of discrimination helped me understand why anti-discrimination laws for businesses are so important. Public accommodations laws have been on the books since the 19th century; in the 20th century, they served as shields against racial segregation. Public accommodations laws will most likely face more speech-based challenges. We shouldn’t underestimate the symbolic power of contesting discrimination in public accommodations.

What It’s Like to Be a Queer Teenager in America Today

teenagers, high school is a much more accepting place than even a decade ago. Their experiences highlight a “paradoxical finding,” as researchers have described it: Even as social inclusion for young L.G.B.T.Q. To better understand, we took a national poll and talked to two dozen high school students in five states. It’s a different world from when his older sister, Brianna Henderson, attended just seven years ago, when there were very few openly gay students. His home state has passed laws related to restroom use and sports participation for young transgender people.

As debates over transgender issues embroil Montana’s legislature, the governor has faced lobbying from someone close to him: his son, who identifies as nonbinary and has pleaded with his father to reject what he called “immoral, unjust” bills backed by Republicans. In an interview with The Montana Free Press published Wednesday, David Gianforte, who uses he and they pronouns, said he had sat down with his father, Gov. Greg Gianforte, a Republican, last month with a prepared statement in hand to read aloud. David Gianforte, 32, told The Montana Free Press, a nonprofit news outlet, that he had written down why he believed bills that were gaining traction in the State Senate and House would be harmful to the L.G.B.T.Q. On March 27, he began his meeting with Governor Gianforte and his top health adviser with a familial introduction, according to The Free Press: “Hey Dad.
It’s Time to Break Up With ‘Indian Matchmaking’

She is not one to suffer from impostor syndrome or even, apparently, introspection, so her matchmaking methodology remains resolutely unchanged. In India, the business of parents seeking brides and grooms for their children is a cruel and cutthroat one, having originated as a way to preserve caste endogamy. “Indian Matchmaking” bills itself as just any other show about the caprices of trying to find love in a hostile world. The most pernicious aspects are hidden behind a flimsy veneer of fabricated gentility, apparent in the many euphemistic phrases in which Taparia, the singles she is matching and their parents communicate. The show’s title itself reads like an awkward, faux-anthropological translation, when in reality, the Indian here in “Indian Matchmaking” is merely a stand-in for outrageously wealthy, landed upper-caste Hindus (with an exception here and there).
State legislators across the country proposed a record number of bills targeting LGBTQ rights last year, but less than 1 in 10 have become law, a report published Thursday by the Human Rights Campaign found. The LGBTQ advocacy group’s 2022 State Equality Index, an annual review of state legislation and policies that affects the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people, found that state lawmakers introduced 315 bills that HRC described as “anti-equality.” Of those, just 29 became law. “I know they don’t see that, but these are not winning issues.”This year’s State Equality Index also found that state lawmakers introduced 156 “pro-equality” bills, of which 23, or just under 15%, became law. Seventeen states bar Medicaid from covering certain transgender medical care. In just the first few weeks of the year, state lawmakers have introduced nearly 150 such bills, with the majority continuing to target LGBTQ youth, according to an NBC News analysis.
All week, the Dolphins tried to downplay the potential impact of the frigid conditions. McDaniel told reporters he did not believe the elements affected the Dolphins’ performance in the loss, their third straight. “I know a lot of people would like to make it about the weather, but our team never did,” McDaniel said. The Bills allowed only one touchdown to the Dolphins in the first half — an 11-yard run by Salvon Ahmed — despite Miami entering the red zone three times. Allen threw three touchdowns before halftime as the Dolphins defense struggled to contain him and his receivers while he scrambled.
Members-elect from the House of Representatives prepared for a group photo outside the U.S. Capitol building this month. WASHINGTON—Republicans won enough seats during midterm elections to capture a slim majority in the House, but their ability to advance their agenda will face both practical and ideological challenges tied to such a historically small margin. With little wiggle room, party leaders will need the support of nearly every Republican to propel partisan legislation, giving each member more leverage to alter or block proposals. The slim majority could complicate leaders’ efforts to reach deals on “must pass” bills funding the government, addressing the debt limit or setting farm and military policies in cooperation with the Democratic-controlled Senate.
